Adult Religious Education (Sacramental Ministries)

Life is a journey in which we find ourselves defining and redefining who we are, what we believe, where we are going and what is most important in our lives. Often we find ourselves reflecting on our relationship with the Church and what it means to be a member of a faith community. Thus, adults come seeking the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion at different times in their lives.

Motivations for seeking the sacraments varies from person to person. The church is here to welcome you and support you on your journey. Therefore, we are flexible in our offerings as we use the model of the RCIA for all adult sacramental preparation.

RCIA – GROWING AND GRACED

What it is: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a ministry of welcome. It is for those people who want to explore what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church. Those who come include people who may have never been baptized, been baptized in another Christian tradition or were baptized as an infant with little or no faith formation. As part of a small community, participants experience the process that respects the journey of each individual.

Who it is for: Adults come with a variety of backgrounds and questions. Some were baptized and raised in the Catholic faith but never Confirmed. Some were baptized but never had much formation after that. Others were baptized in another Christian faith but are seeking to become Catholic. Some are just curious, not sure of exactly what they are seeking. Some were active Catholics but have been away from the Church and want to explore where the Church is today. All are welcome!

The Process: Just like life, the RCIA is a journey which moves through stages and rites. We offer the program year-round to honor the way the Spirit of God is alive and active in each person’s life. It begins with an initial interview and then unfolds gradually. The length of the process and how it unfolds varies with the needs of the individual.

For more information: Contact Ms. Cathy Kent at (520) 318-9198. We will arrange an initial interview and proceed from there.
